The MLS Internal Grants Schemes have undergone review and revision for 2009. The three research grant schemes that will be available in 2009 are:
- Research Support Funds (RSF)
- Research Grant Seed Funds (RGSF)
- International Research Visitors Scheme (IRVS)
- Oxford-MLS Research Partnerships (commenced October 2009)
The Small Grant Scheme and the Research Assistance Funds have been discontinued. There are a number of reasons why these changes have been made and the new scheme, the RGSF, has been introduced:
- In 2009 the Research Support Scheme in the Law Library has been introduced. This service will provide a team of experienced and trained research assistants available to assist academics with their research projects. The research assistance available through this service means that support which has been provided in the past through the Research Assistance Funds and Small Grants Scheme will now largely be provided through the Library.
- In light of budgetary constraints, the Law School is unable to completely fund all research and research-related expenses and travel. Hence, it has been necessary to rationalise the internal grants scheme with a view to prioritising support to Graduate Research Students and Early Career Researchers as well as to support researchers to develop projects which can be the basis of future significant external grant applications/linkages or help to create and support international research collaborations.
Research Support Fund applications can continue to be submitted at any time throughout the year and will be assessed by the Research Finance Sub-Committee by circulation.
There will be two submission deadlines for the Research Grant Seed Funds and International Research Visitors Scheme: 10 April 2009 & 2 October 2009. These applications will be assessed by a committee comprising the Deputy Dean, Associate Dean Research and members of the Research Finance Sub-Committee.
