General Admission

Application Procedure

Prospective applicants should familiarise themselves with the guidelines pertaining to the proposed course. A copy of the guidelines can be obtained from the below links:


Prospective applicants are required to submit an Expression of Interest.

 

English Language Requirements

All applicants must meet the University's English language requirement in accordance with Regulation 11.1R3 - Principles of Selection for Entry to Courses (Attachment A).  For futher information, please view the Postgraduate English language requirements web page.

 

Fees

The PhD and MPhil in Law are offered on a Research Training Scheme (RTS) basis only.

The RTS provides Commonwealth-funded Higher Degree Research (HDR) students with an "entitlement" to a fee exemption for the duration of an accredited HRD course.

Scholarships

The University of Melbourne has two main scholarships for local students undertaking research degrees.

They are:

  • Australian Postgraduate Award
  • Melbourne Research Scholarship

Supervision

 Please refer to the Law School's Staff Research Expertise webpage to assess if we have expertise and potential supervisors for your proposed research topic.

 

How to Apply


Expression of Interest

Prospective applicants are required to submit an Expression of Interest.  If we believe that you are a suitable candidate and that we can provide you with appropriate support and supervision, then we will ask you to complete a formal University of Melbourne application for admission.

 

Application Closing Dates

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Please note that if you wish to apply for a postgraduate scholarship, both your scholarship and course application forms must be submitted by 31 October of the current calendar year.
