Expression of Interest for Prospective Research Students

Scholarship Applications for 2010 have now closed!

Please note that scholarship applications (for both international and local students) for research degrees at Melbourne Law School in 2010 have now closed.  Refer to the Melbourne Scholarships Office website for full details of the University of Melbourne's scholarship program.

If you do not require a scholarship, you are welcome to submit an Expression of Interest at any time, although note it is preferred that all research students commence their degree at the start of the academic year in late February.

Expression of Interest Closing Dates for Research Degrees in 2011

If you do require a scholarship, submit your Expression of Interest for study in 2011 by:

31 July 2010 for international students

30 September 2010 for local students (Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents and holders of Australian humanitarian visas)

Melbourne Law School aims to admit outstanding graduates from a wide variety of countries and to provide them with a world class experience in undertaking a research degree. Each year applications exceed places available. Before submitting an application to the Melbourne School of Graduate Research for the PhD or MPhil program, potential applicants are first required to prepare and submit this Expression of Interest form. This Expression of Interest helps us to assess whether you are suitable for our program and to ensure that your thesis is one for which we have appropriate supervisors.

The Expression of Interest form is not intended to be a final statement of the research you may eventually do. It helps establish whether you are eligible to apply to the graduate research program at Melbourne Law School.  Some supervisors will require further details or more information before deciding to accept students. You will be notified if this is the case.

Please note:  Submission of an Expression of Interest does not guarantee a place in our graduate research program.

If you are invited to submit a formal application, you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency (where relevant), your results from previous degrees and references from two academic referees.

If you are not yet ready to apply, but would like to register your interest in our graduate research program, please e-mail the Office for Research (Law).
